Angela is a Mississippi native and has resided in Las Vegas for 7 years with her daughter who’s a second year Biology student at UNLV.

She graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in Public Relations.

Angela has been a Leader in the Managed Healthcare industry for over 20 years. She’s also a mental health advocate. During Angela’s career, she’s had the experience of working with medical patients, along with mental health and substance abuse.

In 2012 she began working for Centene Corporation as the Manager of Network Development. Angela had the responsibly for building a network of mental health and substance abuse providers to service the Medicaid members of Miss. During her time at Centene, she had the privilege of working with providers like Community Mental Health Centers and their staff who were very passionate about their patients. Angela says this experience opened her eyes to child abuse, alcoholism, the Severely Mentally Ill (SMI), suicidal ideation, etc. This is when she decided to be an advocate for Mental health and substance abuse.

Angela previously served on the Board of Directors for NAMI Mississippi. As a member of NAMI Mississippi, she helped plan and coordinate the annual NAMI MS walks. She was also an affiliate member of Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) Mississippi.

Since her move to Las Vegas, she’s joined NAMI of Southern NV.

Angela is a chartering member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.-Greater Las Vegas Chapter (a.k.a. TLOD, Inc.). TLOD is national non-profit humanitarian organization that focuses on Senior Citizens, Teens, Community Beautification, Women and Community Partnerships.

She serves as the Recording Secretary for TLOD, is on the Senior Citizen’s committee and is the Chair of the annual St. Jude walk.

Angela says growing up in rural Mississippi gave her an appreciation for the less fortunate and has aided in her awareness of mental health and substance abuse.

“I believe that being a Board Member would allow me to further help my community in areas that are very dear to me, and in which people tend to overlook and forget. Mental Health and Substance Abuse is the core of many population health issues, healthcare disparities, homelessness, etc. I know I can’t do it all, but if I could work with a group whose heart is truly with helping this venerable population, I would feel that I’m walking in my purpose in life.”
