Xylazine - New Street Drug Found In Nevada Overdoses

In October of 2020, the OD2A Program issues a Public Health Alert about a New Street Drug called Xylazine. Law enforcement has identified Xylazine in the Las Vegas Valley. The testing process revealed Fentanyl and Xylazine in the counterfeit M30s. In 2020 There were 2 deaths attributed to Xylazine. One from Clark County, one from Washoe County. The DEA has reported an increase in illicit drugs laced with fentanyl seized across the country. Xylazine is commonly used as an adulterant in heroin. Xylazine is also frequently found in a combination with heroin and cocaine called a “speedball”.

As of October 2021, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency has seized approximately 1.8 million fentanyl-laced pills and nearly 1,570 pounds of fentanyl powder — enough to kill more than 700,000 people and to potentially make tens of millions more lethal pills.
